چکیده

Many musical instruments have interfaces which emphasise the pitch of the sound produced over other perceptual characteristics, such as its timbre. This is at odds with the musical developments of the last century. In this paper, we introduce a method for replacing the interface of musical instruments (both conventional and unconventional) with a more flexible interface which can present the intrument’s available sounds according to variety of different perceptual characteristics, such as their brightness or roughness. We apply this method to an instrument of our own design which comprises an electro-mechanically controlled electric guitar and amplifier configured to produce feedback tones.

A corpus-based method for controlling guitar feedback

The use of feedback created by electric guitars and amplifiers is problematic in musical settings. For example, it is difficult for a performer to accurately obtain specific pitch and loudness qualities. This is due to the complex relationship between these quantities and other variables such as the string being fretted and the positions and orientations of the guitar and amplifier. This resear...

Coupled string guitar models

An important aspect of the sound of the acoustic guitar is the beating caused by string interaction. In this paper, we present a coupled string model for the acoustic guitar that includes the body in the feedback loop. Constraints on the model parameters are determined using Finite Element analysis of the saddle. Key−Words: Music, Sound synthesis, Physical modeling, String Coupling, Waveguide

Towards High-Quality Sound Synthesis of the Guitar and String Instruments

The sound quality of real-time synthesis based on physical models has so far been inferior to sampling techniques. In this paper we introduce new principles to make model-based sound synthesis of the guitar and other plucked string instruments more attractive from the viewpoint of sound quality. A major improvement is achieved by estimating the model parameters and the excitation signal from th...

A Mobile Wireless Augmented Guitar

We present the design of a mobile augmented guitar based on traditional playing, combined with gesture-based continuous control of audio processing. Remote sound processing is enabled through our dynamically reconfigurable low-latency high-fidelity audio streaming protocol included in a mobile wearable wireless platform. Initial results show the suitability audio and sensors data forwarding ove...

MicroRNAs: Critical Regulators of mRNA Traffic and Translational Control with Promising Biotech and Therapeutic Applications

Context:MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of short, endogenously-initiated, non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally control gene expression via translational repression or mRNA turnover. MiRNAs have attracted much attention in recent years as they play critical roles in gene expression and are promising tools with many biotech and therapeutic applications. The molecular mechanisms und...
